Diary of a Homeschool Mom #4 A Ruined Plan and Now I Am Moving Furniture on a Thursday

September 26th 2025

There is just something about moving furniture, apparently. Actually, in this instance, it was the fact that the school room I had spent previous weeks putting together in our basement got a little…wet. It’s fine, it was actually an ongoing problem that I thought we had solved, and while nothing got wet and we didn’t get nearly as much as we were getting, I still felt that maybe the basement was no longer a good option to keep all the school stuff and curriculum.

I was just getting the stuff we needed for the day, but the back and forth of bringing stuff up and down was kind of exhausting. So I had the brilliant idea to just bring her school stuff back upstairs and turn our overcrowded “office” (aka the junk room where we put stuff to be dealt with later) into a school area instead. This involved moving some stuff to our living room and then having to rearrange our entire living room.

Then the girls told me they didn’t actually like their playroom in the basement either, so I ended up making the office the playroom and adding a school section to our living room, again. And we have come full circle and are back to where we started at the beginning of the year. A school corner to store stuff and do school at our kitchen table.

I actually really like moving furniture, or watching my husband move furniture for me, since that is what actually happened. This week is actually pretty uneventful, which I do not mind at all. I feel like I am finding my flow and getting a good rhythm down. When I am not panicking because I didn’t look at the science needs for the day, and I have to scramble to find all the materials for an experiment that is.

I’ll certainly have more to blog about when the Lions book sale comes around and I bring home another 100 books or so. Books are an absolute must for homeschool, and our home library, while huge, could be bigger.
